SAFS – Swiss Academy of Fitness & Sports – offers a wide variety of certificate and diploma courses, including Fitness Trainer, Personal Trainer, Athletic Performance Trainer, and specialized qualifications such as the federal certificate and diploma courses in movement and health promotion.
What benefits does studying at SAFS University offer you?
As an athlete, you benefit from the following advantages:
- Recognition of your athletic activity: You earn credits for your active career.

- Flexible start of studies: You can start at any time. Self-study and practical study (your athletic activity) begin immediately upon enrolment.
- Individual solutions: For example, you can pause your studies during Olympic years.
How do you benefit as a member of the Athletes Network?
As a member of the Athletes Network, you benefit from a structured study process that optimally combines theory and practice. The study programs are designed to fit with the professional activities in the training company. Additionally, as a member of the Athletes Network, you benefit from a one-time ‘Athletes Network Scholarship‘ of CHF 660.00 for all university offerings.
How many credits can you have recognized?
This cannot be expressed in absolute numbers. In general, each course is assigned credit points, with approximately 25–30 hours of workload per credit point. A large part of this time is dedicated to practice and application.
For athletes, this happens automatically through training, as they actively engage with the subject matter. For binding information, we kindly ask you to contact the responsible persons at SAFS directly.
Are there differences in the allocation of credits depending on the sport?
No, no differences are made. The requirement is that the sport is practiced professionally or at a certain level. This can be demonstrated either through an employment contract (team sports) or through membership in a squad.
When do the courses take place?
The classes take place at the study center in Zurich. For selected courses, you can also participate in a hybrid synchronous format, allowing you to join the on-site sessions live from any location. The programs are designed to be compatible with professional activities in the training company.
What will you have in hand at the end?
After successfully completing your studies, you will receive the academic degree ‘Bachelor of Arts‘ in Fitness Economics or Fitness Training. This qualification prepares you for leadership positions in the fitness and health industry, such as the economic management of a fitness and health center or the management of the training area, including personnel management.
What is the admission process like?
Admission to the program typically requires a completed vocational training or general university entrance qualification. Additionally, a training contract with an appropriate training company is required, as the program is structured as a dual education model. The training fees are usually covered by the training company, and dual students also receive compensation from their training company from the first day onward.
